Find out how much energy is wasted during idling

It’s inevitable: Both electric and diesel buses spend time idling, which wastes energy, and in the case of diesel, sends increased emissions into the air. Some idling is unavoidable because of traffic conditions, type of route, geography, and so on, but some idling happens because of human behaviors, such as taking breaks or leaving the engine on unnecessarily, and some happens because of organizational idling policies. The good news is that time spent idling can be managed and even reduced.

Throughout 2020, we processed over 8.5 million electric bus idling sessions and an additional 3.4 million diesel bus idling sessions. With such rich data, we saw the opportunity to take a closer look at idling and provide deeper insights into the topic.
