Investing in EV charging is more affordable than you think. Governments and utilities offer an array of tax credits, rebates and grants that can put you on the road to a more sustainable future.

El Paso Electric (New Mexico): Commercial Rebate Program

EPE's Commercial Rebate Program offers both rebate and make ready funding, with additional amounts available for locations defined as underserved communities. Customers are encouraged to take advantage of all three below:

Equipment Rebate Program:

  • 50% of hardware costs up to a limit, depending on kW output;
    • AC charging stations: 6.2kW to 19.9kW up to $6,000/equipment; 20kW and above, up to $6,500/equipment
    • DC charging stations: 20kW to 99.9kW, up to $33,000/equipment; 100kW and above, up to $74,000/equipment
  • 70% of hardware costs up to a limit if located in underserved communities, depending on kW output;
    • AC charging stations: 6.2kW to 19.9kW, up to $8,400/equipment; 20kW and above, up to $9,100/equipment
    • DC charging stations: 20kW to 99.9kW, up to $46,000/equipment; 100kW and above, up to $104,000/equipment

Installation Rebate Program:

  • 50% of customer-side make ready costs per site
    • DC charging stations: up to $53,100
    • AC charging stations: sites: up to $7,500
  • 70% of customer-side make ready costs per site in underserved communities
    • DC charging stations: up to $74,380
    • AC charging stations: up to $10,500

PowerConnect Program:

  • 50% of utility make ready costs on EPE’s system up to a certain amount, dependent on vertical:
    • Workplace: up to $20,000 per site
    • Public: up to $20,000 per site
    • Public DCFC: up to $150,000 per site
    • Fleet: up to $150,000 per site
    • Multifamily: up to $30,000 per site
  • 70% of utility make ready costs on EPE’s system up to a certain amount per site if in underserved communities, dependent on vertical:
    • Workplace: up to $30,000 per site
    • Public: up to $30,000 per site
    • Public DCFC: up to $200,000 per site
    • Fleet: up to $150,000 per site
    • Multifamily: up to $30,000 per site

Public Service Company of New Mexico (PNM) Incentive program

Incentives are available from PNM for installation costs (from customer meter to base of charger) related to Public, Workplace and Fleet use cases, along with funding specific to Mass Transit deployments. You may be eligible for the following incentives:   
  • Public DCFC rebates: capped at $50,000 per station, up to 100% of project costs.
  • Public, Workplace and Fleet L2: capped at $5,000 per port, up to 100% of project costs.
  • Multifamily: capped at $5,000 per station
  • Multifamily (disadvantaged communities): capped at $10,000 per station.
  • Mass Transit: no limit on the number of installations for a single service address; however, no single entity may receive more than $3 million.
No single service address can qualify for more than four rebates. All customers must submit their information prior to installation and receive pre-approval for funding.

Socorro Electric Cooperative, Inc. Incentive Program

Socorro Electric Cooperative offers incentives for publicly accessible Level 2 AC charging station and DC fast charging station installations.
  • Level 2 AC charging station: up to 50% of EV equipment and installation costs, up to $1,000.
  • DC charging installations are based on the station output:
    • DCFC 50-75 kW: 50% of EV equipment and installation costs, up to $3,000
    • DCFC 76-149 kW: 50% of EV equipment and installation costs up to $5,000
    • DCFC 150+ kW: 50% of EV equipment and installation costs up to $7,500
Only one rebate will be provided per installed charger. Multiple ports associated with a single charger do not qualify for additional funds.

Federal tax credit

If you purchase charging stations between Jan. 1, 2023 and Dec. 31, 2032, your organization may be eligible to receive a 30% tax credit up to $100,000 per station under the 30C Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Tax Credit. Commonly referred to as the “federal tax credit,” the credit now requires applicants to be located in designated census tracts.
