Available incentives:
The California Energy Commission’s Communities in Charge incentive is providing $30 million in EV charging station funds for qualifying sites.
- Funds cover up to $6,500 per Level 2 AC port or 100% of eligible costs, whichever is less.
- Multifamily housing sites can receive an additional $2,000 towards eligible costs.
- Project sites for Tribal government, Tribal entity, or non-governmental organizations serving Tribal communities can receive an additional $3,500 towards eligible costs.
- At least four and up to twenty connectors are allowed for most project sites. Multifamily housing and workplace projects may have a maximum of forty connectors.
Applications are open now and reviewed competitively until January 31, 2025.
Who is eligible?
The program is open to all sites with a connection to their local community as long as the applicant is the property owner, lessee or authorized representative and the one who incurs the cost.
You may not stack incentives from any State, Federal, utility or other local EV charging incentive programs.
Funding will be prioritized based on a project's level of readiness, starting with Tier 1:
- Tier 1: Project has its site verification form, final site design, issued building permit, and eligible equipment selection.
- Tier 2: Project has its site verification form, final site design, and building permit application.
- Tier 3: Project has its site verification form and preliminary site plans.
Applicant Journey
- Register
- Participants must first register through the Incentive Processing Center (IPC).
- Familiarize yourself with the application documents, we suggest reaching out to ChargePoint to support you and simplify the process
- Apply
- Applicants are required to submit their application and supporting documents before window closure through the IPC.
- Notice of Award
- Awardees from Readiness Tier 1 (the highest level of project readiness) are provided a Notice of Final Award. Awardees from Readiness Tiers 2 or 3 are provided a Notice of Conditional Award. To receive their Notice of Final award and be eligible for incentives, additional documentation must be provided within 90 calendar days.
- Final Payment
- Awardees having received a Notice of Final Award must request their Final Payment through the IPC no later than 270 Calendar Days from their Notice of Final Award.
