The California Energy Commission (CEC) is investing $79 million through Round 6 of the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program to strategically deploy DC fast chargers supporting light-duty EV travel along major California corridors. This competitive grant program supports projects that meet federal standards for reliability, accessibility and power delivery. The CEC will reimburse 80% of eligible project costs, with awardees providing a minimum 20% match share.

Eligibility overview

  • Deploy DC fast charging stations supplying a minimum of 150kW simultaneously per port
  • Minimum of 4 and a maximum of 20 networked ports per location
  • Locations must be within 1 mile of an eligible Alternative Fuel Corridor (AFC)
  • Provide public access
  • Cover remaining project costs with non-federal funds
  • Meet federal uptime and reliability standards

Applications are due by September 25, 2026
